Gear measuring machines are high-precision machines and are used to meet quality requirements for measuring gears. They are used to test and evaluate gear quality according to DIN or AGMA standards. Defined gear deviations such as pitch, profile, flank line, tooth thickness, surface, radial runout, single- and double-flank pitch deviations are measured here.

In addition to the tactile measuring method, there is the option of measuring gears on coordinate measuring machines, contactless using laser technology, as well as on gear running test machines (single-flank rolling test (EWP) or double-flank rolling test (ZWP)) and subsequently evaluating them.
Manufacturers of gear measuring machines include Klingelnberg and Gleason. Pfauter, Niles Kapp, Hoefler, Mahr, Hommel, Wenzel, Zeiss...
